The White Sox and free-agent outfielder Jon Jay agreed to terms on a one-year, $4 million contract Monday night, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.
Jay, 33, hit a combined .268 with the Royals and Diamondbacks in 2018. But the intrigue here is Jay’s friendship with free-agent target Manny Machado.
The Sox already signed Machado’s brother-in-law, Yonder Alonso. Machado, Alonso and Jay train together in Miami in the offseason, and they wrote about the city and their friendship in The Players’ Tribune.
