The Chicago White Sox will receive three new video boards at U.S. Cellular Field by opening day 2016, Illinois Sports Facilities Authority spokesman Michael Alvarez said Thursday.
Alvarez, speaking for the organization that owns and operates the ballpark, confirmed a report from Crain’s Chicago Business that said the new center-field scoreboard will check in at 6,500 square feet. That's more than four times the size of the current 1,484-square foot video board in center field, which was installed in 2003 but since has become among the smallest in Major League Baseball.
An artist’s rendering depicts the center-field board as a pentagon with multi-colored pinwheels at the top.
