The 2005 White Sox are one of just five teams in Major League Baseball to lead their division wire-to-wire and win the World Series. The other four teams are the 1927 Yankees, 1955 Dodgers, 1984 Tigers and 1990 Reds.
It’s not easy to do. The baseball season is so long that even the best teams of all-time go through slumps. To go wire-to-wire in your division, you better time those slumps right.
As you probably remember, the White Sox’s inevitable slump came late in the 2005 season -- late enough that the massive cushion they built up early in the season held up.
