The White Sox struck first, as they combined timely hitting with an error to push the first run of the game across the plate. That inning started with a leadoff single by Leury García. After Toronto’s starter Marcus Stroman retired Yoán Moncada and José Abreu, Yonder Alonso reached on an error to extend the inning. That brought up Welington Castillo, who singled up the middle to drive in García.
Then, Freddy Galvis led off the top of the second with a home run off starter Dylan Covey to tie it, and it appeared that this one might be a battle of the offenses.
