Jose Abreu pointed to the sky after reaching first base in the seventh inning Thursday night at U.S. Cellular Field, hugged White Sox first-base coach Daryl Boston and flashed a big grin.
No translator was needed to know he had hit a milestone that was important to him.
Abreu's two-run single in the 6-4 loss to the Royals pushed him above 100 RBIs for the season. Coupled with his 30th homer, which he hit Wednesday night, Abreu did something only one other major-league player has accomplished in his career.
He and three-time National League MVP Albert Pujols are the only players to record 30-plus homers and 100-plus RBIs in each of their first two major-league seasons.
