White Sox Sign Second-Round Pick Jared Kelley

CHICAGO — The Chicago White Sox have signed right-handed pitcher Jared Kelley, their second-round pick in the 2020 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, to a minor-league contract with a $3.0-million signing bonus.

Kelley, 18, was named the 2019–2020 National Gatorade Player of the Year for baseball after not allowing a hit and striking out 34 batters over 12.0 scoreless IP. He entered the draft rated by MLBPipeline.com as the u211612 overall, u21163 high school and u21164 right-handed pitching prospect.

“This is a moment I’ve been dreaming about for as long as I can remember and still can’t believe it’s real,” said Kelley.
