CHICAGO — The Chicago White Sox have signed shortstop Colson Montgomery, their first-round pick (22nd overall) in the 2021 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, to a minor-league contract with a $3.027-million signing bonus.
Montgomery, 19, batted .338 (25–75) with nine doubles, seven home runs, 23 RBI, 41 runs scored, 37 walks and 24 stolen bases in 27 games during his senior season at Southridge High School in Huntingburg, Ind., where he helped guide the Raiders to the IHSAA Class 3A state championship in 2021. He was an All-America Second Team selection by Baseball America and MaxPreps.
