White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu won’t play anymore this season, with the team opting to shut him down while an infection in his leg continues to heal.
"The infection is healing, it's just not healing at a pace quickly enough for us to force him back into action these last five games,” General Manager Rick Hahn said Tuesday.
Abreu, who leads the team in doubles (36) and RBI (78), won’t travel with the Sox for the the season’s final series in Minnesota. He told reporters he planned to head home Friday.
