White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson was suspended by Major League Baseball Friday for his role in an on-field scrum soon after his home-run bat flip on Wednesday, as first reported by the Stadium network.
Anderson was plunked by Royals pitcher Brad Keller in his next at bat — common retaliation in baseball after a hitter flips his bat or overly admires his home run.
The benches cleared, there was some yelling and shoving, and the umpire crew chief ejected both players as well as Sox manager Rick Renteria and Royals bench coach Dale Sveum.
