The White Sox announced four roster moves ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Washington Nationals at U.S. Cellular Field.
The White Sox designated Jerry Sands for assignment and added starting pitcher James Shields to the 25-man roster.
Sands had a slash line of .236/.276/.291 with a homer and seven RBI in 24 games with the White Sox this season.
Shields was acquired on June 4 by the White Sox from the San Diego Padres for pitcher Erik Johnson and minor-league infielder Fernando Tatis Jr. Shields will make his White Sox debut Wednesday night against the Nationals.
