White Sox ride contact hitting to a 7-3 victory

The Chicago White Sox wrapped up the last full week of spring training with a 7-3 win over Cleveland, thanks to some solid pitching from a gumbo of arms, and timely hitting.

In the first, starting pitcher Zach Thompson worked his way into trouble, allowing back-to-back singles to open the game. But, he struck out slugger José Ramirez and induced a double play grounder from Carlos Santana to escape the jam unscathed. That was Thompson’s only inning of work, and Evan Marshall followed by pitching a 1-2-3 second inning.

The longest outing from a White Sox pitcher was from southpaw Sean Nolin, who threw three scoreless innings, striking out four, though it was not drama-free.
