John Danks' tenure with the White Sox is officially over.

The team announced Friday that it requested waivers on Danks for the purpose of granting him his unconditional release. This after designating the left-hander for assignment earlier this month.

Danks spent parts of 10 seasons with the White Sox, but he struggled in just four starts this season, postiong a 7.25 ERA in 22 1/3 innings and taking the loss in all four contests.

In addition, the White Sox purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Matt Purke and added him to the 40-man roster.

Purke is a former first-round pick, selected 14th overall in the 2009 draft, though he opted to play at the college level and wound up a third-round pick in 2011.
