DETROIT — Professional opportunity windows don’t get much smaller than the one that produced Brad Goldberg’s first major league callup in Detroit Saturday.
David Holmberg is filling in a spot in the White Sox rotation, while James Shields making his rehab start this weekend for Triple-A Charlotte, creating a short-term gap in the bullpen that could be closed in a week when Shields returns. Michael Ynoa’s strained right hip flexor, suffered in the third inning Friday night, just an hour or so before Jake Petricka made his first rehab appearance in for the Knights in Buffalo, created room for Goldberg — the sixth reliever called up from Triple-A this year.
