A day after White Sox manager Robin Ventura used two position players as pitchers in a 17-6 loss to the Athletics at U.S. Cellular Field, the Sox recalled right-handed pitcher Scott Carroll from Triple-A Charlotte to join the bullpen.
Carroll has pitched in 13 games with the Sox this season, going 1-1 with a 3.41 ERA and 21 strikeouts. He made 16 starts for Charlotte, going 7-4 with a 3.47 ERA and 45 strikeouts.
The 30-year-old made his major-league debut last season and pitched in 26 games for the Sox.
The Sox bullpen pitched 19 innings over the last three games as starters Chris Sale and Jeff Samardzija lasted just three innings on Sunday and Tuesday and Monday’s game lasted 14 innings.
