The Chicago White Sox designated right-handed pitcher Hector Noesi for assignment and recalled right-hander Scott Carroll to take his place before Thursday night’s game against the Pirates at U.S. Cellular Field.
Noesi had started the season as the Sox’s fifth starter, but the Sox gave his spot to rookie left-hander Carlos Rodon in May. He was kept on as a long reliever and spot starter for when Rodon needed extra rest, but he had only made three relief appearances since May 25. He gave up four runs – three earned – in his last outing Monday against the Pirates.
