The White Sox recalled right-handers Erik Johnson and Tommy Kahnle from Triple-A Charlotte before Thursday’s game against the Red Sox.
Johnson will make his first Sox start of the year Thursday night, taking the place of left-hander John Danks, whom the Sox designated for assignment.
Kahnle joins the Sox bullpen in place of Jake Petricka, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right hip impingement.
Johnson is 1-1 with a 3.74 ERA and 16 strikeouts in four starts with Charlotte this year. Kahnle pitched one scoreless inning with the Sox this year against the Orioles.
