The Chicago White Sox promoted second baseman Nick Madrigal to majors ahead of Friday’s game at the Kansas City Royals.
Madrigal was the No. 4 pick in the 2018 draft. He is the No. 4 prospect in the organization and the No. 40 prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB.com.
Madrigal, 23, spent spring training and summer camp competing with Leury Garcia and Danny Mendick for the starting role at second base. The Sox reassigned Madrigal to the team’s training facility in Schaumburg before the start of the season.
Madrigal had a combined .311/.377/.414 slash line with 27 doubles, five triples, four home runs, 55 RBIs and 35 stolen bases between Class A Winston-Salem, Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte in 2019.
