White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf supports a proposed ban on smokeless tobacco use at all Chicago sports facilities, which would include U.S. Cellular Field and Wrigley Field.
Reinsdorf sent a letter to the City Council Finance Committee on Friday saying he applauds the potential move, which will be up for approval by the City Council on Wednesday.
“Baseball and its teams are proud of the sport’s long-standing role as a change agent in American culture and society,” he wrote. “We strongly believe that children should not be exposed to smokeless tobacco or see such products being used by their on-field sports heroes.
