The White Sox placed right-hander Zach Putnam on the 10-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation before Tuesday’s game against the Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Putnam, who underwent surgery to remove bone fragments from his right arm last season, had a 1.04 ERA over 8 2/3 innings pitched in seven appearances this season, but he felt tenderness in his elbow when pitching Saturday.
He had hoped to be able to work through the problem without a trip to the DL, but Sox manager Rick Renteria said the difference after he began medication was minimal.
