The two were on ESPN on Sunday for a different type of competition as Snell swept Giolito 3-0 in the best-of-five championship series of the “MLB The Show” Players League video game event.
Snell, the 2018 American League Cy Young Award winner for the Rays, won the three three-inning games by scores of 5-1, 3-2 and 6-0.
Sunday’s broadcast marked the conclusion of an event that included a monthlong regular season featuring one player representing each of the 30 major-league teams. The top eight players qualified for the playoffs; Snell was the top seed and Giolito was seeded sixth.
