After two months of headaches that aspirin couldn’t fix, the pain in Janet Sutherland’s head grew too terrible to bear. She called 9-1-1 and screamed for help just before she crumpled next to her refrigerator, vomiting and convulsing.
A blood vessel in her brain had swollen and burst. To put it in medical terms, she had suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm — the same medical emergency that struck White Sox pitcher Danny Farquhar at a game Friday night.
Sutherland said she was in a coma for three weeks, and when she awoke, was blind and paralyzed.
