Carlos Rodon’s curiously tight upper right bicep is due for a second opinion on Monday, after which something resembling a real timeline might emerge, eventually. A clean MRI takes away all of the most severe anxiety about what soreness and tightness above and below the elbow means for the throwing arm itself, but the White Sox still have a balance to strike going forward.
This is a crucial year for Rodon, a season where we would expect to see his big breakout if he is indeed going to launch toward his front-of-the-rotation ceiling rather than stagnate as a big stuff, inconsistent command type who is useful but not quite someone to build around.
