CHICAGO -- Former Chicago White Sox catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. was not as close to becoming the club’s new bench coach as has been suggested.
Reports have indicated that Alomar turned down the position, which became available when the White Sox parted ways with Mark Parent at the end of the 2015 season. As it turns out, a reunion of Alomar and the White Sox did not get that close.
A major league source has indicated that Alomar did not turn down an offer to become the White Sox’s bench coach. Instead, it was the initial interview request that he declined.
