The White Sox named former infielder Chris Getz their new director of player development Friday.
Getz, 33, replaces Nick Capra, who was named the Sox’s third-base coach under new manager Rick Renteria.
He spent the last two seasons as a baseball operations assistant in player development with the Royals, assisting in minor-league operations and player personnel decisions in that role. He played for seven major-league seasons with the Sox, Royals and Blue Jays, retiring from playing after the 2014 season.
Getz said in a statement that he gained an understanding of the Sox organization after he was drafted by them in 2005, came up through the system and made his major-league debut with them in 2008.
