Instead of building toward the majors the last two months, White Sox prospect Lucas Giolito has toiled in the minors, overhauling his mechanics. That work has led to a gruesome ERA and frustrating results. Until Thursday, when Giolito threw a no-hitter in a 4-0 win over Syracuse, the Triple-A affiliate of his old organization, the Washington Nationals.

Let’s get some stuff out of the way first.
Giolito was pitching a seven-inning game, in the first half of a doubleheader, as is custom in the minor leagues after a weather-based postponement on the night before.
