White Sox: Michael Ynoa shows his mettle in nervy eighth inning

BOSTON — Only eight days after making his major league debut, and pitching in only his third game in The Show, Michael Ynoa found himself on the mound in the eighth inning at Fenway Park tasked with holding a one-run lead against the middle of the fearsome Boston Red Sox lineup.

Setup man Nate Jones and closer David Robertson were unavailable, and reliable right-hander Zach Putnam was placed on the disabled list Tuesday. Matt Albers came in to clean up for Jose Quintana — who walked six and allowed six runs in 5 1/3 innings — in the sixth inning, and left-hander Dan Jennings had just completed 1 1/3 innings of work.
