Robin Ventura repeatedly has said he feels support from his White Sox bosses, but rumors about his future continued to spread until executive vice president Ken Williams' strong endorsement Friday night at Comerica Park.
Ventura was "absolutely" grateful for Williams' backing, though he knows how this thing works.
"What is it, the old kiss of death?" the manager cracked Saturday before the Sox's game with the Tigers was rained out. "No, we have very frank conversations of what's going on with players and how we're going about it. But that always has been the case."
Williams' decree doesn't mean Ventura is safe forever.
