White Sox — filling in for the postponed Cubs-Cardinals series — are set to make a rare ESPN ‘Sunday Night Baseball’ appearance this weekend against the Indians

For the first time in years, the Chicago White Sox have been slotted for a regular-season appearance on ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball.”

Their Sunday game against the Cleveland Indians has been rescheduled to 6 p.m. and set to air on national TV.

The Sox are a last-minute substitute for the oft-featured Cubs, whose three-game weekend series in St. Louis was postponed by Major League Baseball because of positive COVID-19 tests from the Cardinals.

In one regard, the exchange makes sense because the Cardinals’ COVD-19 situation led to scrubbing the White Sox-Cardinals “Field of Dreams” game in Iowa that was supposed to air nationally Thursday on Fox.
