Pitching for the defending champs and top-seeded team in the NCAA tournament, the 6-foot-5 Singer was named Baseball America’s national player of the year, the first pitcher so honored since UCLA’s Trevor Bauer in 2011. He’s also one of 25 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes award as the national player of the year but sat out the last week of the regular season and the SEC tournament while nursing a hamstring injury.
