The Bruce Rondon reclamation project appears to have hit its expiration date as the White Sox designated the powerful, erratic right-hander for assignment on Wednesday.
Jeanmar Gomez, who unraveled after saving 37 games for the Phillies in 2016, is being promoted from Triple-A Charlotte to replace Rondon.
Rondon was effective early this season but left with an 8.49 ERA after a horrific outing in Tuesday’s 14-2 loss to the Cardinals. He walked three of four batters he faced, allowing runs to score on a passed ball, a wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk.
