White Sox catcher Alex Avila leaves with back stiffness, Carlos Rodon hit hard vs. Reds

White Sox catcher Alex Avila left Saturday’s game against the Reds with lower back stiffness after three innings at Camelback Ranch.

Avila, who is hitting .059 this spring, struck out in the bottom of the third inning before exiting, and catcher Hector Sanchez took his place. Dioner Navarro was catching in the second game of a split-squad doubleheader against the Dodgers on Saturday night.

In the first game, the Sox used six fourth-inning runs against Brandon Finnegan to take a 7-4 lead, but left-hander Carlos Rodon gave up the tying three-run homer in the fifth inning.
