The White Sox purchased the contract of right-hander Chris Volstad from Triple-A Charlotte before the start of a four-game series against the Twins on Thursday.
Volstad, 31, replaces Gregory Infante, whom the Sox optioned to Charlotte after Wednesday’s win over the Rays. Infante allowed eight earned runs over 4 1/3 innings in six appearances.
Volstad is a veteran of eight major-league seasons and made two starts and four relief appearances with the Sox late last season. A former starter with the Rays and Cubs, he recorded his first victory in five years in September.
