Saddled with 20 pounds of ice wrapped in gauze, Zach Putnam's right arm, from shoulder to elbow, had the makings of a mummy late Saturday night.
"It's a heavy load," Putnam said after tossing 24 pitches in two scoreless innings during the Sox's 6-2 victory against the Twins. "I'm gonna wear it a few extra minutes. It feels great."
Putnam and his penmates — Nate Jones, Dan Jennings, Tommy Kahnle and Michael Ynoa — have been carrying quite the load for the White Sox so far this young season.
Putnam struck out three that night and continued a stretch of dominance for the White Sox relief — when the team's relievers didn't allow a run in the first four games, something that had not been accomplished by the Sox since the start of the 1983 season.
