The White Sox added minor leaguers J.B. Wendelken and Brandon Brennan to the 40-man roster Friday to protect them in the Rule 5 draft.
Wendelken, who was acquired from Boston with Frank Montas in the Jake Peavy trade, struck out a combined 69 batters in 59 innings between Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte.
Brennan, the team’s fourth-round selection in the 2012 amateur draft, posted a 3.00 ERA in 18 innings in the Arizona Fall League this offseason. He also posted a 3.55 ERA in 58 1/3 innings at Single-A Winston-Salem this season.
The White Sox now have 36 players on their 40-man roster.
