The Chicago White Sox made a trade. But it wasn’t for Manny Machado or Christian Yelich. Instead, the Sox acquired infielder Jose Rondon from the San Diego Padres in exchange for cash considerations. Rondon, 23, was designated for assignment on Saturday. The trade also fills the 40-man roster.
The right hander has only played eight games in the majors and that was in 2016. However, he has seven years of minor-league experience. He’s by no means a flashy name or top prospect, but someone who could be a utility option for Rick Renteria.
