Before being drafted by the Chicago White Sox, Jake Peter was known more for his pitching than his hitting. As a pitcher, he featured a mid-90s fastball that proved effective as a reliever.
He could also hit pretty well so when he wasn’t pitching, he played second base. When the White Sox drafted him in seventh round of the 2014 amateur draft, he wasted no time with the bat.
While playing rookie ball in the Pioneer League, Peter hit 388/.444/.579 in 37 games. He also struck out just 13 times in 152 at bats.
