Welington Castillo was conducting a postgame TV interview after Tuesday night’s White Sox win when Yolmer Sanchez interrupted and dumped a bucket of Gatorade over his own head.
The Sox were trending upward for the first time this season, and everyone was seemingly in on the fun.
But everything changed 24 hours later, and when news broke during Wednesday’s game that Castillo would be handed an 80-game suspension for PED use, the Sox’s season once again was operating under a black cloud.
Manager Rick Renteria referred to the report by Dominican journalist Americo Celado as “rumors” and declined to comment after the game, though it was confirmed by The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
