Toronto FC title game: ‘Don’t bother me on that day – I may not be sober’

Something unusual happened to Andrea Lombardo at the office the other day. The 29-year-old works in real estate, but he used to be a professional soccer player, and on Thursday, co-workers and clients were suddenly asking him about soccer: “And I’m not sure that’s ever happened to me, ever.”

A decade ago, Lombardo was one of the first players to join Toronto FC, a local signed to Canada’s first Major League Soccer franchise. It was an expansion team then, but this week, it is the talk of the town.

“People I wouldn’t have expected to watch the game,” Lombardo said, “they watched the game.
