When Riley Crean was in junior high, his father quit playing catch with him. Nothing personal. Tom Crean didn't want to break a finger — or worse.
"Not without catching gear," Tom said Friday.
In the years since, Riley developed into a pitching prospect worthy of major-league attention. The White Sox drafted him in the 35th round Wednesday, though they are aware he plans to remain an amateur.
Crean committed to pitch at Indiana, but with the school having fired his father as its basketball coach, he is slated to attend IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
