BOSTON — Tim Anderson didn’t wait around to get Chris Sale some run support.
The rookie shortstop’s first career home run — a towering blast that sailed over the Green Monster and onto Landsdowne Street on the first pitch of the game — sparked the White Sox 3-1 win over the Boston Red Sox Tuesday night at Fenway Park. Anderson became the first White Sox player to lead off a game with his first career home runs since Thad Bosley in 1978.
The White Sox quickly added another run in the top of the first when Adam Eaton — who doubled off the Green Monster on the second pitch of the game — came around to score on Melky Cabrera’s sacrifice fly to left.
