’Tis the season of giving for White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson, who holds the 2019 American League batting title. He surprised a local athlete and White Sox Amateur City Elite U13 program participant, Kelvion Jelks, and his family with $1,000 in holiday presents during a special meet-and-greet at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Jelks has persevered through a young life of adversity to become one of the program’s most promising athletes. While committed to his school work and baseball training, Jelks also pitches in to help his aunt, a single-working mother, with an array of family responsibilities. Anderson is Jelks’ favorite player, and he has followed his career since his major-league debut.
