Two days before June 1, 1937, White Sox starter Bill Dietrich allowed 10 runs on nine hits, including three home runs, at Cleveland and was pulled after 3.1 frames of work. It was just his second start of the season, and he had yet to pitch more than five innings over six outings. The White Sox lost, 15–3, at Cleveland.
Four seasons earlier, Dietrich made his major-league debut for the Philadelphia Athletics out of the bullpen on April 13, 1933 at age 23. He allowed five runs and was unable to record an out.
