On Saturday, SoxFest didn’t offer a burst of news as eye-opening as a minor league deal for Peter Bourjos, but there was still plenty of light shed on the 2017 season and the White Sox’s future.
* Justin Morneau walked away as a free agent at the end of last season, and the White Sox have not done anything to specifically address the designated hitter position since. “Let’s find a slow-moving slugger on the decline!” isn’t typically the first priority of a rebuild. Manager Rick Renteria said he sees the position serving as a “swing role” this season and mentioned Jose Abreu, Todd Frazier and Melky Cabrera as guys who could hit while they receive days off from the field.
