To the White Sox faithful and baseball fans around the world, Opening Day is and always will be a virtual holiday full of hope and optimism for the season ahead.
The Sox open the 2019 campaign on Thursday in Kansas City vs. the Royals and will celebrate Opening Day at home a week later on April 4 vs. the Mariners at Guaranteed Rate Field. Hope to see you there.
Opening Day excitement is nothing new for the South Siders. Here is a sampling of memorable ODs in Sox history, both home and away, in chronological order:
On April 24 at South Side Park, the White Sox played the first game in American League history and the first game as a major-league team — an 8–2 triumph over the Cleveland Bluebirds (forerunner to the Indians).
