Prior to Thursday's contest with the Pirates, the White Sox designated the right-hander for assignment. They added right-hander Scott Carroll from Triple-A Charlotte, with Carroll moving into the long relief/spot starter role.
Noesi, 28, came into this season in the White Sox rotation, but also knowing that top prospect Carlos Rodon would soon be a big league starter and he could be the odd man out. Noesi started the home opener on April 10 but didn't start again until April 21 and May 2, making just one more start on May 25 in Toronto.
The relief role didn't seem to be a true fit for Noesi, who is making $1.
