Jose Abreu called himself "kind of shy" when considering his growth as a White Sox leader before Friday's 12-1 victory over the Royals at Kauffman Stadium.
The 28-year-old first baseman said at the end of last year he hoped to take on a greater leadership role in his sophomore season, but he finds it hard to be vocal within the clubhouse, especially given the language barrier that still exists for someone who has only lived in the United States two years.
So Abreu, who hit one of three Sox homers in left-hander John Danks' second complete game of the season, said he continues to try to influence the team the best way he knows how.
