The White Sox have never signed a player to a contract more than $68 million. This has been stated over and over this week by many writers and fans. Why? Because the White Sox have been rumored to be interested in many top free agents including Bryce Harper and Manny Machado.
With the Sox coming off a 100 loss season, the opportunity to improve the team drastically this offseason has presented itself. The Sox have the payroll flexibility to add a top free agent or two along with other quality veterans. But can the Sox convince someone like Harper or Machado to join a team that not only hasn’t reached the postseason since 2008 but might not be competitive until 2020?
