John “Honey” Romano, a power-hitting catcher in the late 1950s and 1960s and a member of the 1959 American League champion Go-Go White Sox, passed away last week in Florida at the age of 84.
Forty players suited up for the Sox during the ’59 season. With Romano’s passing only eight are still alive on the 60th anniversary of the pennant-winning team. Of those on the 25-man World Series roster, just three are still with us — shortstop Luis Aparicio and pitchers Ken McBride and Barry Latman.
