Amid the hoopla of the City Series between the White Sox and the Cubs last month at Wrigley Field, Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer found some time to meet with Sox manager Rick Renteria.
It was there that Hoyer presented Renteria with a 2016 Cubs World Series ring, an acknowledgement of Renteria’s work with a young Cubs group during his lone season as manager on the North Side in 2014.
Now nearly three years removed from the Cubs replacing Renteria with Joe Maddon, Renteria sat in his Sox uniform before Wednesday’s game at Dodger Stadium and called the presentation “a classy gesture.
