One of the classic moves a manager can make during an ejection is slamming his cap to the ground in a show of disgust.
Nobody did it better than Lou Piniella, who admitted Yankees owner George Steinbrenner once ordered him to make a scene so the team could make the back pages of the New York tabloids. Piniella also liked a good cap kick every now and then, a technique he perfected with the Cubs during a memorable 2007 ejection at Wrigley Field.
White Sox manager Rick Renteria is no Piniella, but he showed promise Thursday with a cap-slamming episode of his own during the fifth inning of a 5-2 victory over the Orioles.
